COSTA RICA SPOKEN LANGUAGES
The official language of Costa Rica People is Spanish; however a lot of people in Costa Rica speak English especially at hotels, rent a car companies, souvenir shops and tourist agencies. Latin American Spanish not only has some differences from the Spanish spoken in Spain but also the meaning of some words varies from one Latin American country to another, even the pronunciation may vary from one country to another or from one province to other.

Some hotels located in areas like Manuel Antonio, Arenal and Puerto Viejo de Limon are run by Italians, Germans or French people therefore it is possible to find hotels where one of these European languages is spoken.

Besides Spanish other Costa Rica spoken languages or Indigenous languages spoken in Costa Rica are Bribri, Maleku, Guaymí, Cabécar and Boruca, however the Indigenous peoples of Costa Rica represent only a 1% of the Costa Rican population and they occupied only 350000hectares of the territory for these reason the indigenous languages of Costa Rica are only spoken in isolated areas off the beaten path, in places such as the Talamanca Mountain Range.

In Puerto de Viejo de Limon on the Caribbean Coast most of its inhabitants are of Jamaican origin thus speaking some kind of broken English or English Creole dialect.
